The approach is learner-centric. Dance is for the dancer and should be adapted as per the dancer’s body type and ability. The emphasis is beyond performance. It is about developing a new language of communication, understanding one’s self and body through the medium of dance.Yoga poses and stances are an integral part of Bharatanatyam. The teaching method recognizes that and imparts knowledge of dance through the understanding of yoga as well.Dance has three parts to it: rhythm, music and expression. Each dancer is taken through each of the aspects, thereby developing the ability to think in the dance form and communicate in it. Last but not the least, the form is for telling stories. Learners are guided to explore Indian myths, languages and metaphors through Bharatanatyam.
